Leonidio

Leonido is quickly becoming one of the largest climbing spots in Greece and all of Europe. New sectors are opened every year and hundreds of routs bolted. The city of Leonidio around which happens this fast development not only accepted climbers, but  embraced them. In the prime season you may now meet as many climbers as locals in town. You feel the relaxed atmosphere of a climbing paradise everywhere around. Sectors are concentrated in a close proximity to town but there are more further up the valley, along the coast and a bit further around Kyparissi. The sheer amount of sectors mean that it's easy to escape the masses if you like, choose a sunny or shady sector, one with slabs or massive overhangs. Routes are mostly long and lavishly bolted, ideal for beginners and experienced climbers alike. Leonidio is just 5km from the coast of Mediterranean sea with a very mild climate extending the prime season from October till May and even in the hot months there are sectors with over 1000m elevation where it can be nice and cool.

 

Your sport climbing adventure will start at the Athens Airport. From there we will take you to Leonidio by a scenic seaside route that takes approximately 3 hours. Depending on the time of arrival we take you for a dinner or will have just a small late snack at the apartment. You don't have to worry about first breakfast as they will be provided as a courtesy. After breakfast we choose the sector best suited for the group level and preferences, stop at the grocery to pick up some snack for the day and climb the rest of the day. In the evening we have a dinner in one of many local restaurants with a delicious local cuisine and spend the rest of the evening socializing over a glass of local wine or Rakomelo (hot rakia with honey and herbs) in the climbing bar Panjika. You will go to bed with head full of projects for the next day and next future visit as this is the place where you can't go only once.

As it is possible to find a dry sector even when it rains, we usually don't plan rest days and rather take you through a variety of different styled sectors so that you enjoy as much of the rock-time as possible. But if your body would demand some relax, there's nothing to recover it better then a day at the beach.
